David Ross left this review about The Village Bar

From its location, in old Blantyre village, and its elderly looking exterior, I would guess that this is probably the oldest surviving pub in the town. The interior has been modernised, but tastefully, retaining an old fashioned wood-panelled ambience, notwithstanding the inevitable TV, games machine and juke-box. Being a free house, there is a good selection of draught beers from different breweries, including Guinness, Tartan Special, McEwan’s 60 Shilling, Belhaven Best and John Smiths, as well as Tennents and Carling lagers. Strongbow Cider is also available on draught. Food is served and there is live music some nights. There is a small, separate bar in addition to the main one and a beer garden which I cannot comment on as it was closed due to the heavy rain.
