Will Larter left this review about The White Lion Inn

I walked here from Matlock Bath, and though it is steep it only took me 10 minutes from the station. I hesitated about going in as I was due to meet up with some other Luton Town fans in Matlock Green, but I'm glad I stopped for a quick half. The building is a conversion of a row of cottages, with one or two doors blocked up but two used for the bar and lounge entrances, so labelled, although once inside it is just one very long room. Having said that, there is a sort of snug behind the bar, whose existence only becomes apparent to those who need to make use of the toilet facilities, as it is accessed through the same door to the right of the bar.

There are three hand pumps at each end of the bar, with four ales available. On my visit these included a couple of Christmas specials from Jennings and Wychwood, the regular beers being Marstons Pedigree and EPA. I had a half of Wychwood Bah Humbug, which seemed appropriate as there was a CD of pretty awful Christmas music playing. Despite that, this was a very pleasant pub, and I wouldn't mind coming back in warmer weather, when I dare say the bench tables outside would be a good place for the view.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The White Lion Inn

Traditional village inn, with a great view overlooking the Derwent Valley from the front. Friendly welcome, and three real ales on (well-kept, if my pint of Jennings Cumberland is anything to go by). If you look at the Ordnance Survey map, there are three railway stations within a mile or so, but it is a steep uphill walk from any of them (particularly Matlock Bath) - worth it, though.
