Steve C left this review about Kiss the Sky Bar

A relation of mine hired out the Kiss the Sky Bar on a recent Sunday (closed on Sundays unless hired out for private functions) and I was lucky enough to be invited. This isn’t a place I would normally be found in but it was pleasant enough with a small bar upstairs and a dimly lit lounge bar with snugs downstairs. The ‘no smoking’ garden out the back could do with some TLC, but there is lots of seating and a table tennis table. This bar doesn’t open until 17:00 and food is served from 18:00 until 22:00. I didn’t think that the buffet was up to much for the price paid, but it wasn’t this establishment’s usual fayre and I believe that it was bought in and reheated. The downstairs lounge bar accommodates various things throughout the week that range from poetry readings to film showings and live music. The manager seemed very accommodating and he hooked up a laptop to play the genre of music that he was asked to.

The biggest let down with the bar was on the drinks front as only Flensburger and Lindeboom were available on draught and they were both not great and the Guinness was Surger from a can of which I’m not a fan. There were various bottled beers available and there is also a cocktail menu. Happy hour(s) run from 17:00 until 19:00 daily and NHS staff get a 10% discount (not sure if this is just on food though).

I can imagine there being a queue for the toilets during busy periods as the gent’s consists of one small cubicle and a urinal that is under the slope of the stairs so one has to lean to the right with the sloping ceiling/wall when having a leak.

This place served its purpose well and the function I attended went off well, but I cannot see myself returning as I prefer a good old fashioned pub with decent beer.
