General Staal left this review about Grassington House Hotel

OK, so I'll 'fess up. This is really an upmarket hotel and restaurant with a bar open to the public.

However, as it has a small bar area and Mrs Staal and I were welcomed in our muddy walking gear for a drink and crisps, and they have four real ales, I think this deserves a place on this website.

The building is Georgian and looks like it could well have been a small manor house in the village centre. It is quite a grand and imposing building.

The small bar has modern decor and furnishings, but plenty of period Georgian features.

The restaurant is also small and modern in decor with period features and decorated in dark red, recalling the 18th Century.

There were, as I said, four real ales, Tetley Cask, Thwaites Best Bitter and Wainwright and Dark Horse Hetton. I tried them all except the Tetley and they were delicious.

The service was very friendly.

Mrs Staal and I came back for a three course meal, which was absolutely delicious but was priced as in a 'proper' restaurant. The lunchtime menu is cheaper.

This is a lovely place to sit outside on the Square on a lovely day with a pint and watch the locals and tourists alike pass by.
