Two other customers were leaving as we arrived at this remote country pub. Another guy was checking into his room. This left us alone with the landlady and about 8 or 9 cats in the garden. The landlord soon appeared and gave us a history of the felines.

The pub itself has 2 rooms. One has a pool table and various motorcycling items, reflecting the owners' passion. Wye Valley Butty Bach & HPA were the 2 real ales, but I was more drawn to the local Monnow Valley cider, called Redneck Rascal. They also had one of their perries (possibly Magic Perry), which the landlady was kind enough to let me sample.

There is no wifi for customers use here. Customers are requested to engage in the art of conversation instead.

The village of Llanthony is a fairly magical place, set in a valley with the ruins of an old Priory. This pub and the village itself are well worth the effort of getting to.

A superb pub off the beaten track close to the historic Llanthony Priory.
