Excellent new pub with lots of historical information about William Withering and the town of Wellington. Very comfortable with a good pub manager. 6 or 7 real ales on including the local Salopian Shropshire Gold. Recommended!

Recently opened Wetherspoons shop conversion , this is the first pub in this part of town for around forty years and stands on the site of the old Duke of Wellington , the alley up the side was part of the Bulls Head yard , both demolished in the late 1960s (around with a dozen other pubs around town) as part of the towns urban redevelopment plans .
The exterior is standard Wetherspoons , large glass windows and wood , inside is much the same , large open plan with lots of dark wood and a few nooks with laden book shelves , only the large panels showing bits of the towns history and historical figures differentiate it from any other spoons .
There are ten handpulls on the bar , six are doubled up with Abbot Ale , Ruddles and Salopian Gold (sold out , why were the clips not turned round)the others had one from Cottage Spring and Three from Lymestone , i had a Lymestone Foundation Ale and very good it was .
Although only open a week or so it allready has the usual JDW problems like a lack of staff and a long wait for service at the bar .
Wellington is full of dodgy pubs so this is a decent addition to the towns pub scene if they can keep the idiots out
