This is a proper, handsome, pub-like pub on a back street just outside the town centre. When I called in, a couple of days after Christmas, the bank of three hand pumps on the handsome bar counter was decorated with tinsel but no pump clips. On enquiry I was informed that they did have Directors on but it had sold out. I gave it a miss at the time, but after visiting a couple more pubs I called in again, having a few minutes to spare before my train and no other pubs I wanted to tick off. The lass behind the bar recognised me and we had a little laugh about me coming back again; I had a small brandy, what with it being the festive season and all. I might call in again next time I'm in Ilson - it's still a lovely looking pub, even if it only flatters to deceive.

A very inviting looking back street Victorian pub. The interior was comfortable, well kept and was carpeted throughout. The pub opens at 10am which is surprisingly early, considering its location. We got here around 12.30 on our Fri visit and there were around half a dozen people in, sat over a drink staring aimlessly at the TV's, so not a great pub for conversation on this visit. Only one handpump in use serving Lees MPA.

The Spring Cottage is a bare brick built pub that is situated in the back streets off bath street.
The pub was a Bass tied house when i first went in it,this was rare in Ilkeston at the time,i have been in this pub loads of times and have always enjoyed my time here.
The pub has now been opened out but still retains two seperate drinking areas due to the unusuall layout of the pub.
Once inside the bar area is to the right, this area runs to the rear of the pub, there is comfy bench seating and small stools, the other area is larger, this is at a sharp angle to the left, this area also has very comfy bench seating, there is also a pool table off this area down a few steps.
There were three pumps on the bar but two unclipped, this left Lees MPA which was a very nice well kept beer.
There were three TVs showing Sky Sports football updates, the pub was reasonably busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I have always liked this pub and my most recent visit has made me like it even more.
