Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Grotto
Recently refurbished pub / restaurant in a fantastic location by the beach at Marsden Bay, and unique in having its private cliff lift to get customers down from the Leas and car park above (although you can also tackle the zig-zag steps instead...). As you would expect, the pub is partially built into the rock, which certainly gives some character in the Olde Trip to Jerusalem style, but on a fine day the front terrace is an unbeatable spot. Two real ales on handpump, and unsurprisingly expensive given the location, with Sharp's Atlantic and Hadrian Border Tyneside Blonde (£4.50) available on my visit. Despite the prices, this is a spectacular spot and well worth a detour.
