Visited on Friday afternoon. Fairly quiet but there was a handful of people in. Six hand pulls at the bar, all of which were on, plus a selection of keg taps on the back wall that I didn't pay much attention to (even though the lady serving pointed them out to me). I went for the Malt Brewhouse Blonde at £2 for a half pint. This was a nice easy drinking blonde ale. I received a friendly welcome and good service.

Food is served, TVs were on but muted, with music playing at a sensible volume. It is dog friendly. This place has been nicely done out, light wood effect, some bare brick, and modern lighting all make this an enjoyable place to enjoy a drink.

Formerly the 166 it has been redecorated to a higher standard, still with two rooms, the back/side one being set out for dining and also houses the on-site brewery. The other room is an odd shape and has an odd corner set aside at the back. There is also a bar upstairs sometimes used as a function space.

A large good sized modern pub, that gives you the impression of two venues in one. You enter the pub into a traditional lounge and bar side along with a lower snug area. This side of the pub had exposed stone and brick work and a stone fireplace. Then you take a right hand turn into what can only be described as a modern diner, along with an open plan kitchen, with pizza oven, pool table and shuffleboard down the right hand side.
We called in on a Wednesday eve, so all the cask beers were £2.50. They had six handpumps, with five in use, plus a choice of ten keg beers dispensed from taps along the back wall of the bar. We went for the Saltaire Blonde, which was excellent. No sign of their in-house microbrewery on this visit.

After a £200 000 refurb, Bar 166 reopened at the end of November as The Malt Brewhouse. There are 10 craft keg lines, 6 cask ales on handpull, with the bar's own microbrewery scheduled to open in Jan 2019. Food wise, pizzas and tapas plates are the speciality.

Old Boots left this review about Bar 166 & Bistro

A bar and bistro, there are separate entrances to each but with internal connecting doors, the bar is in modern style while the bistro is a fairly formal dining area. One cask beer – Deuchars IPA, but in as good nick as it gets, there is also, and more interestingly, an extensive collection of US bottled beers from Goose Island, Brooklyn, Liberty and Flying Dog as well as keg offerings from Tiger, Leifmans, Murpheys and sadly the US version of Budweiser, the cyder is from Symonds. Otherwise wines and spirits for cocktails which are arranged on stepped shelves behind the bar as in similar places. The bar has a mix of seating ranging from tables and chairs at both high and medium level to odd three legged 1950s style stools, while the bistro is all tables and chairs. Lots of exposed stone and a big screen which was showing custom made adverts for the US beers and a couple of bars in central Leeds, presumably owned by the same people.
