An impressive traditional freehouse serving really good food and decent ale. It looks a bit scruffy from the outside, where there is an unconsolidated car park, an inconvenient junction controlled by traffic lights and, on this occasion, a group of yoofs jhanging around. There isn’t a garden as such, but there is an upstairs terrace on a flat roof at the back from which you get a splendid view across the levels. There is a small holiday cottage as part of the business. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, the clientele were, on this occasion, a good bunch of locals, but I suspect its proximity to Burrow Mump might draw in grockles during the holiday season. Food was freshly prepared chef’s specials – above-average pub grub - good value and well cooked, locally sourced including steaks from the local butcher. Ales on were Rare Breed and Original from Butcombe, and Quantock Ale, all in excellent condition. The décor is a bit contrived, with fake beams, presumably hiding concrete or steel beams where the ceiling has been lifted. The floors are tiled and there are woodburners at both ends. It’s friendly, cosy and has a good pub atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Old Fashioned pub which appears unchanged for several decades. Four or five real ales available of fairly good quality and selection. visited on a sunday lunchtime and food was flying out of the kitchen. Worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Burrowbridge.
