Old Boots left this review about The Westgate

Bar and Restaurant rather than the original pub, many years ago it was The Lamprey, and since has apparently had a chequered history. An über trendy front area, tiled like a toilet but in grey and with sofas, tables and chairs. The mid-section with the counter is narrower, the counter has two handpulls but clips were reversed, otherwise a very ordinary keg choice and not even any interesting bottles. Further back the place widens out again and there is a wide shelf affair with cushions. Not the kind of service or fellow customers I look for when out but it must appeal to some. The toilets are upstairs past a pool table and the kind of frame you can tie people to, to whip them – nice. A sign saying “Our house wine is Jägermeister” just about summed up the place for me.
