A very pleasant, though slightly chocolate-boxy, thatched village pub, B&B and restaurant with a large annex and a small car park, down a country lane, with extensive views from the garden out over Yeovilton airfield. Restored inside and out, it has retained some original quaint features, but I suspect the ceilings have been raised as it is now light and airy inside. Most of the floorplate is taken up by dining tables, but the friendly, helpful staff were very happy to remove the dining clutter for those of us who just wanted a drink. Food is freshly cooked and good value. The guests were very civilised, a decent bunch of people sharing convivial time. There were 2 ales on, Butcombe's Bitter and Rare Breed, both in perfect condition. It is a little contrived, but that isn't a problem. I'd be very happy to come here to eat and/or drink any time, and it's probably worth a stopover if passing.

This pub has been taken over by a charming couple. She is Italian I think. We had a very warm welcome. The service was attentive. We ate a delicious venison casserole and pheasant from the board accompanied by a selection of vegetables. We drank warming mulled wine. The pub is beautifully done up. The atmosphere was lovely with many other diners. We are already planning our next trip there in January.

Rebulit after catastrophic fire last year this is a food led village inn which lacks a certain cosiness. The fire was caused by a spark from the chimmney setting fire to the thatched roof. Said roof is still thatched but the interior didn't do it for me. As I stated an extensive food menu is offered and is supposedly good, everyone there was eating. Beers were a tad dull, With Butcombe, Otter Bitter and the ubiquitous Teignworthy which is very common in this area (why?)
