To misquote Captain Scott, Great God! this is an awful place and terrible enough for us to have laboured to it without the reward of a decent pint of real ale. It's an interesting and complex building, with an unfortunate smell of bleach predominating, and the TV competing with loud background music to make it as unwelcoming as possible. Just what sort of customers do they think they'll attract? Presumably just those that have tanked up on cheap supermarket spirits before venturing out for the late night session. The hand pumps were sporting (metaphorical) cobwebs, so I had a half of Boddingtons Smooth, my drinking companion (Captain Oates, perhaps?) went for the Stella. My beer was so awful - cold, gassy, tasteless - I couldn't finish it. On reflection, my score of 2 is perhaps a little generous.

The Royal Oak is situated in the middle of Chapeltown.
This pub has got two entrances i went in the one to the left this took me into a small square shaped room with the bar facing, the room was carpeted and had normal tables and chairs, there was a TV showing the Tour De France, there was a larger room to the right which was down one step this room was dimly lite and had lots of different drinking areas, the seating was mainly bench type with chairs,i sat in this area and found it to be comfortable and a decent enough room to settle in.
There was one real ale on the bar this was Shepherd Neame Spitfire and this was a very nice drink that went down really well.
The pub was fairly busy with locals and i found this to be a decent pub.
