Quite dramatically built along a slope which looks impressive as you pull up to it. Unfortunately it perhaps promises more than it delivers as an unsympathetic refurb has happened at some point not so long ago, all very beige and boring over some knocked through rooms. Three ales on; one from Southwark(!) and 2x Grainstore. My Grainstore Cooking was pretty listless and even a sparkler couldn't save it aesthetically. One distraction we enjoyed was the barmaid with yellow and black eyeshadow, a new one on us. The ‘fillies’ and ‘stallions’ bog signs kind of summed this one up for me. Post visited I have discovered that it is owned by the same people as the Fox in North Luffenham, which was a surprise because the beer there was so good.

The Horse and Jockey is a decent looking stone built pub that is very close to Rutland water.
There is a small seating area at the front of the pub for warm weather and this was full early dinnertime, once inside the main drinking area and the bar are to the left there is also a larger dining area up a couple of steps to the right.
The pub had been done up in a modern style but it still seemed quite pubby, there were three real ales on here i had a drink of Grainstore Cooking and this was a really nice drink the other beers were GK IPA and an house beer called Horse and Jockey Fail at the First.
I thought this was quite a nice pub and the beer was very nice.
