Real Ale Ray left this review about Station East

Formally the Station Hotel and now rebadged as the Station East after been bought by Hadrian and Border Brewery. This is Hadrian and Border's first flagship pub and the building has gone through a major refurbishment, with a lot of structural work to support the railway embankment that was due to collapse into the pub. This also revealed the original granite wall, which is now the main feature when entering the pub, which runs from the ground to first floor with an impressive round circular stone portal built into the wall.
A further large vaulted brick room located under the railway, previously the cellar is now a popular area for vertical drinking. There is also a steel framed mezzanine first floor, with adequate seating and gives a good view of the ground floor bar.
Other features consists of the lighting above the bar area, which hang from timber beams suspended on chains. The bar is constructed from pine, with the front panels blow torched to give a rustic look. Three Hadrian and Border ales on handpump, so we went for the Tyneside Blonde, Northumbrian Gold and Yule Fuel. The bar staff were all very friendly and helpful, we liked this pub and would happily take a stroll across the bridge again to visit.
