Opened as a cinema in 1926 and the pub gets its name The Electric Wizard, from a 1930's Scottish entertainer Dr Walford Brodie, who used to pack the place out with his magic tricks using electricity. This venue stayed as a cinema up until 1999. The interior hasn't many distinct features apart from an illuminated sculpture of some electrical circuitry along the side wall in the main lounge area. This pub was busy on our Sunday afternoon visit, mainly full of families out to entertain their kids, so the place was quite noisy and hectic. Two banks of five handpumps, which were doubled up with the usual boring offerings. We went for the Wolf Brewery Wolf Ale, which was ok.

This conversion of the old Coliseum cinema consists of a smallish single square room with the bar on the right. The pub doesn't seem to utilise any of the upper part of the cinema as the toilets are on the same level so it might just as well have been a shop or office conversion. Furnishings are fairly typical.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had one available soon and the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up leaving Sonnet 43 Impressment APA, Cumberland Corby Fox and Maxim Maxim. I went for the Sonnet 43 beer (£2.35) which was in good nick.
Despite the limited beer choice I thought this was an above average Spoons. It seems to be the norm in the North East only to stock the odd beer or none at all from the quarterly list giving preference to Locale beers.
