A roadside inn which has been extended and is now run by Butcombe's, and previously known just as The Kiln. There is large car park at the front and a decent sized garden with impressive views across the Somerset Levels when the weather allows. The bar is formed from the original downstairs rooms of the Georgian 2-up, 2-down cottage which forms the pub's nucleus. The décor is basic, the floor a mix of tiles and flags, and the original open fireplaces are still in place at each end. The bar staff were extremely pleasant, and in one case very easy on the eye. Food is simple but freshly cooked from local produce, and there is a daily-changing specials board. One thing which spoils the food is being served on manky old bits of driftwood rather than proper plates, and another is that is is overpriced, while portion sizes were huge. There were 2 ales on draft, both from Butcombe: Original and Union, both in excellent condition, and these were complemented by 2 ciders from Thatchers. The evening clientele are mainly the over-55 dining set, while lunchtimes are dominated by the more civilised tourists, especially in Summer. This latest visit was a very pleasant experience, and one I should be happy to repeat if only for the beer.

Decent enough country pub (with gastro-pretentions) with a good welcome and efficient service. Ales well kept, but nowhere near as many as there used to be. I've eaten here many times although the food is average pub grub, even a pedestrian menu. Above average.

Popular roadside dining pub which was surprising busy at a quiet time of year. By all accounts the food is reasonable although I did not eat. Couple of pints, a Wychwood January Sale and a Butcombe Gold which were in good condition
