Previously the Mountbatten Arms, this modern roadside pub and steakhouse is currently owned by Mitchell and Butler, sited next to a busy roundabout in a busy commercial area; the roundabout is still known as the Mountbatten Arms Roundabout. It has a good sized carpark at the front, but a disproportionate number of spaces are reserved for disabled badge holders. There is a large seating terrace with wicker seats, which affords a fine view of the BP garage opposite. As you enter through the glass doors there is a restaurant area on the right, which is divided into cubicles of the sort you see in a Dilbert cartoon. The bar is on the left, a tiled floor around the counter and a red carpet, red lighting and annoying muzak beyond. There is a chimney breast with a gas fire, a selection of stylised bull-related prints, presumably a hint about the steaks, and free WiFi. The overall feel is that of an Austrian bordello. The staff were fine, if a little dopey, and the majority of the clientele were middle-aged white collar workers. Beer prices were surprisingly low compared to other local pubs. There were two ales on, Doombar and Ringwood Best, both hideously over-gassed but otherwise quite quaffable. Worth stopping for a quiet pint when passing.
