Will Larter left this review about Five Lamps

Large street corner pub with an extensive and centrally placed wooden bar counter. There are raised seating areas near the windows, and the unobtrusive girders in the ceiling and numerous pillars holding them up make it hard to imagine what the original layout must have been. Wood panelled walls are tastefully adorned with a variety of pictures and maps.

There's a Camra members discount of 20p a pint, but considering there are 14 hand pumps, it's a surprisingly mainstream selection, with beers from Acorn, Bass, Everards, Peak, St Austell, Joules, Kelham Island, Oakham and Hartington. Nothing wrong with those, but it's unusual to see so many different ales and none of them at all off-the-wall. It was pleasant enough in here, but I felt it was lacking a bit of character and atmosphere.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Five Lamps

Solid-looking building, now yet another of Derby's destination real ale pubs with a great selection from a total of 17 handpumps: 14 real ales (e.g. Derby Junipale at £3.00) and three ciders. Features a modernised but comfortable 'L'-shaped bar with part-height wooden panelling and otherwise light decor in a range of seating areas. Also has a front patio and a side decking beer garden. Well worth the walk out from the city centre.

This pub now has 14 real ales on the pumps, three lagers and three ciders on draft and many other craft beers as well as an extensive menu covering all the favourites. It also has a pub quiz every Monday night starting at 9.15pm. It has a facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FiveLampsPubDerby) and a twitter feed (https://twitter.com/Fivelampspub)

I have never been to this pub before, despite having driven past it a thousand times on my way to college. This is probably due to it's location on what is really a road traffic island. however, having made the effort, we were pleasently surprised. the decor has a Spoons feel to it, but it is clean and tidy and the range of beers was both varied and of an excellent quality. the place is a bit out of town, but well worth the hike, especially if you have made it to the Flowerpot.

This 2013 Good Beer Guide pub was a new one on the circuit for us, and I was impressed with both the beer and the food. It is a clean tidy and friendly pub with a room that has various seating areas to it. We enjoyed Derventio Hoplite and Abbeydale Beer Works Dr Mortons Horrible Skellington here.

ROB Camra left this review about Five Lamps

One roomed pub that obviously used to be more. It's been nicely refurbished with wood panelling and raised leather seating to the right as you enter. It's an Everards "Project William" pub which means that it is free of tie on cask ales so it acts as the tap for Buxton and Peak breweries. There are now 11 handpumps with a great range of ales. The 3 I tried were all in good nick. Having looked at the menu we decided to eat here. What a good decision that was. All 3 of us had different meals and all were excellent. It was chosen as Derby CAMRA Pub Of The Year for 2012 against some very stiff competition. It's also been listed in the GBG 2013. A great newcomer to the Derby beer scene and one that we'll return to again and again I suspect.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Five Lamps

A recent entry into Camra's GBG, nine ales on handpump on my visit. This is a quite a large pub with raised seating at the front and has plenty of room for drinkers and diners. Has traditional decor and has a good relaxed atmosphere. I went for the Julian Church Bat Out of Ale, Derby Five Lamp Ale, Buxton Blonde, Buxton Kinver Downfall and Peakstones Alton Abbey. Will call again
