Old Boots left this review about Aldwark Arms

Large, white painted, double fronted, multi room pub, mostly restaurant to one side and to be honest a fair bit the other side as well. The front right area is a more bit pub like separated from a small dining area by a wheel in a wall, it has a couple of screens, a sofa and there are bar stools along the counter. The counter has three pulls, a four way horseshoe and three tall solos, the cask beers today were Taylors Landlord, Theakstons Best Bitter and Hambleton Stud, I don’t think they change much but the entrance porch wall is covered with various pump clips but I was told they were from ages ago. Nothing extraordinary on keg, usual suspects from I believe Heineken, there’s also a fair collection of local gins. There are blackboards above the counter listing ales, kegs, ciders and gins. Decor is modern unsurprising grey and exposed brick and of course it’s all tables and chairs the majority at dining height, the furniture does match, it’s not that “harlequin” nonsense. The pictures are wine based and it has Edison bulbs on spiders web wiring, some caged to stop them escaping. Nice wide ranging popular music sound track. There’s a conservatory, a private dining room called the Udder Room and a riverside garden but being a cold wet day I stayed inside, drinking a well kept Landlord. In spite of the restaurant vibe I quite liked the place, probably due to the friendly service and decent quality beer.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Aldwark Arms

The Aldwark Arms was our first pub on a Sunday visit to North Yorkshire. Situated in a village north of York, this is more of a gastropub than a village local. The contrast with 11 pubs we visited in East Yorkshire the previous day was stark. Everywhere in East Yorkshire had been relaxed when it came to Covid restrictions, with very few people wearing face masks indoors. However, in the Aldwark Arms, everybody was wearing masks to walk around. Whether this was a local thing, or more of a social class thing, I'm not sure, but an interesting observation nonethless.

Inside, there are a number of different seating areas. Everybody we saw were dining and staff were a little reluctant to offer up a table inside for drinkers. There is also a large outdoor area. Although, there was a rather nasty whiff in the air, possibly from the adjacent river.

4 real ales are available. These were Timothy Taylor Landlord, Pennine Hair of the Dog & Hambleton Thoroughbred Session IPA & Stud Blonde. I opted for the Thoroughbred, which was a little too bitter for my liking.

A pleasant enough pub is a lovely village location, but a little too pretentious for my liking.
