Old Boots left this review about The Lower Turks Head

Appears to have been extended at some time into the adjacent building, aparantly formerly a barber’s shop. A fine old style if woody interior with traditional banquette seating, tables and chairs and some odd high seats opposite the counter, which look like ex-church parts. Six pulls four from Holts and two from Bootle 8 keg taps. Three more pulls in the extended part with more seating of a similar nature. Rather more expensive than the Hare & Hounds next door for the same beers.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Lower Turks Head

Holt's pub located directly across from the Shudehill Interchange. Two narrow, elongated bars on slightly different levels (suggesting a previous amalgamation?). Anyway, both parts have a traditional, city-centre look and feel. With all six handpumps in use, I found the usual Bitter, IPA, Mild (£4.10) and Two Hoots plus a couple of Bootleg beers as guests: Chorlton Pale Ale and Fool's Gold.

Fine Holts pub, which is much larger and tidier than its rather down at heel exterior (tiling excluded) would lead you to expect.

Enter into a multi roomed bar. Loved the little seats opposite the bar - the last time I say in such a thing, it came with a seat belt at alton towers. Slightly blurred photo provided for reference, if it makes the cut.

Holts bitter in good condition, as you would expect

No Megabus for me (unlike the previous reviewers). I was just wandering through the Shudehill area and having passed this pub several times before, this time I decided to enter. It has quite an interesting interior with a number of rooms. However, I was immediately drawn to the church pew-like seating immediately opposite the bar - 5 or 6 seats with individual glass-lined drinking shelves. I've not seen the like before.

On the real ale front, this is a Holt's pub. All of the beers were from Holt's or their associated brewery (Bootleg). The choice was Bitter, IPA, Mild, Two Hoots, Santa's Vacation & Chorlton Pale Ale. Choosing a Christmas beer on January 6th seemed a bit of a risk, but Santa's Vacation was actually very enjoyable and possibly the best Holt's beer I've ever tried.

Being near the tram and bus station, this pub will inevitably attract a transient crowd. Although, there were a few locals in too. Much better than I had anticipated.

Much the same as Quinno below I managed a quick pint before my Megabus! A decent pint of Holts bitter and a quick chat with some friendly locals made it a decent visit. Worth popping in for one.

Quinno _ left this review about The Lower Turks Head

A final swift tick before my Megabus and yes I was drawn-in by the beautiful exterior maroon and cream tilework. The inside is all modern, although fairly well done in a mid-90's ‘trad’ way (though it transpires it was actually installed in the early 10’s – it looks like it cost a fair wedge) with dark wood, three or four discrete areas and a feeling of intimacy. I sat opposite the bar in the weird little individual curved seats which had an incredibly narrow shelf attached. Six cask, my Holt's Mild was rather good (NBSS 3.5), shame about the awful indolent staff who seemed to find customers an annoyance – they needed managing. They conspired to knock a point off the score, as otherwise I felt pretty positive about the place. 6.5

The Lower Turks Head is an 18th century Holts pub with split level seating to the right and left that is served by a central bar on both levels. There are some tables in the front windows, but the main seating is at the rear. Opposite the bar on the left wall is some interesting pew seating with little beer shelves. These were unused, but I bet they were te place to be back in the day! Upstairs is another seating area and there is an advertised roof terrace that I didn’t visit. There are also four en-suite bedrooms upstairs. There are televisions for showing live football and some very low background music was playing during a recent midweek evening visit.
During my visit I remained in the left hand bar as the lower right had its light off and was unused. The six hand pumps were drawing Bitter, Two Hoots, IPA and Fools Gold. As I approached the pub the original tiled exterior had me hoping that this would be a decent pub, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Lower Turks Head went bust during the last lockdown and was bought by Joseph Holts. After a quick refurb it opened in July.
Very similar to how it was before. Holts have missed a trick here because at £3.60 for a pint of Joey's bitter it is steep when you can buy it a lot cheaper next door in the Hare & Hounds. No surprise on Friday night it is quiet whilst next door is busy.

Will Larter left this review about Lower Turks Head / Scuttlers

The Lower Turks Head is a traditional pub with glazed tile facade; Scuttlers is a wine bar-type extension next door, added when the pub reopened after a fallow period of more than two decades. In reality, as pointed out by ROB Camra below, they are now one continuous space. At the time of our visit the only entrance was to the original pub door on the left, assiduously guarded by a bouncer. The place was heaving but civilised, with Man City on the TV. We were served quite quickly, or at least would have been if the young and inexperienced lass behind the bar hadn't tried to pull two halves from what turned out to be an empty barrel. We switched to an alternative and she pulled two halves from the wrong pump. After all this kerfuffle, we were then charged £4! Luckily we were still in a good mood after watching the Hatters win at Blackburn. But really, the only reason we'd called in was for variety, as we'd been in the Hare and Hounds a few doors along on our way to Victoria station a few hours earlier. Where the excellent Holts Bitter is just £2.70 a pint.

Still searching for a city centre pub with a beer garden/terrace. This has one, but to get to it, you need to fight your way through the kareoke and dancing. At tea time.

Upstairs bar - Timothy Taylor Landlord an unexpected find in such a place. Terrace bar was super but of course packed.
