Blue Scrumpy left this review about Larkin's Bar

Probably pre-dating the micropub format, this cafe bar/pub has many similarities. Located at the southern end of the lengthy commercial street that is Newland Avenue, this is a modern-looking space that apparently was once two separate shops.

The bar is to the rear and has a couple of real ales. These were Abbeydale Moonshine & Great Newsome Pricky Back Otchan. The cider was Lilley's Mango, whilst craft beers were Northern Monk A Little Faith, Brooklyn Defender, Thornbridge Green Mountain & Brew York Julie Forsyth.

There were just a few other customers in for my late Tuesday afternoon visit, but they were gradually trickling in. A few tables had reserved signs on them, suggesting that it does get busier in the evenings.

I chose the Pricky Back Ochan. I wasn't particularly impressed. Although I think it was the beer, not the conditioning.

Quinno _ left this review about Larkin's Bar

After suffering an abysmal 15 minutes in Pave, I was less-than-impressed that the GBG had guided me to yet another student-centric café bar. However, this one has been done with a bit of effort. An L shape room with a mix of bare brick and tiled walls, the tiles being quite Portuguese in flavour I thought. The RSJs are obvious from the opening out that has taken place. Three pumps at the bar with Wold Top, Great Newsome and Acorn Blonde (very good nick) on. Not a bad place but not neccessarily worth the yomp from the city centre unless you are intending to crawl this area. Saying that, I’d probably use it if I were local.

ROB Camra left this review about Larkins Bar

A two roomed comfortable cafe bar on the Newland Avenue strip. The rooms are joined togaether but were obviously once two seperate shops. It was named after Philip Larkin the poet and you can imagine the clientele being rather bookish at times. There's a patio area at the front and another outdoor area to the rear. 3 handpumps selling Wold Top Wold Gold as the house beer. A changing ale from Great Newsome and a guest ale are also available. My pint was in very good condition and this bar is listed in the CAMRA GBG2014. We'll be coming back here again.
