I was under the impression that the Railway had restricted opening hours, but this is no longer the case with it being open seven days a week, including during my recent Monday evening visit. Expecting it to be closed I had only 15 minutes for a beer before my train left from the Railway Station over the road. This is a Robinsons pub so the three hand pumps were drawing Unicorn, Dizzy Blonde and Tom & Berry alongside some standard keg. To the right of the entrance is a seating area with a door marked ‘Bubbles Bar’, which I assume is where any local West Ham fans or chimpanzees drink. Further up on the right is a small L-shaped bar counter where a few very friendly and welcoming locals were chatting. To the left are some high tables and there’s also a dartboard. This isn’t the largest pub so it must get cosy when the advertised live singers are doing their Saturday sets. This is a decent local and is very handily situated.

Adjacent to Handforth station, the Railway is an ok Robinsons pub that caters for both drinkers and diners alike, and on my recent Wednesday lunchtime visit prooved very popular with foodie's of the older generation. The pub has a pleasant interior with an L shaped bar,a small room on the left and a raised area to the rear, and thought just the right amount of railway and steam train memorabilia without going over the top.
