Now open again and pretty busy at the time of my mid-afternoon jubilee holiday visit. It seemed unchanged from my visit more than four years ago, and looking at my photos I see that three of the four beers are the same as in December 2017: Pedigree, Bass and Harvest Pale, with Old Speckled Hen now replaced by Knowle Spring. I went for the last named, which was in good condition but not a particularly interesting beer. I spent my time split between some semi-amusing people-watching (often better on national holidays) and trying without success to find out from Google when I could catch a bus back into Derby, but the bus company had failed to upload their changed timetables; in the end, one turned up exactly when the timetable on the bus stop said. Should have stuck to the people-watching.

Will Larter left this review about The Masons Arms

An unusual building with what looks a little like a Dutch gable on an extension protruding at right angles towards the road, and another building at a lower level to the left (which may be the original inn). Internally, it's on two levels, with a small staircase between the two. Not enough has been made of this feature in a recent refurbishment, which struck me as being in poor taste and lacking any character. (The wallpaper in the gents features red London buses, the Abbey Road zebra crossing and Carnaby Street models. In Derby?!) The woman who served me similarly failed to make any impression, and I found the whole place rather bland and corporate. My half of Bass, though in good condition, was also rather taste-free, but at least this can't be blamed on the pub. (See photo for other beers on at the time of my visit.)
