A roadside pub dating from the 17th Century, now a family-owned freehouse. There is a huge gravel car park away from the main road, and a garden with benches, tables and a children’s adventure playground. The interior has been opened out, leaving a bar counter at one end and the chimney breast, opened out on both sides, in the centre. The floors arr basic, covered in a mix of hard-wearing carpet and wood laminate, and the décor is unexciting. There is little atmosphere, despite the exposed beams and character of the building. The staff are a little chaotic, and it took quite a long time to pour one, beer, the excuse being that the pumps are ‘a bit iffy’. The beer in question was Cotleigh Tawny, which was rather lacking in taste or textur,e not the best I’ve had. Megakeg beers and ‘craft’ ciders were also available. It’s on the 2018 Somerset Ale Trail. I have passed this pub many times and will probably continue to do so as it’s rather dull.

First time in here under new ownership. Large roadside pub near the lights on the A358 out from Taunton. Accent is on food with Sundays a big event. On a weekday evening was quiet with a few diners. Tap stuff and real ales were Butcombe and Wickwar IKB 4.5% which was OK, the Butcombe being better as has a higher throughput. Probably one for Sunday lunch and a pint I'm afraid as no major population within walking distance.
