Estate pub with a large space given over to band stage. Traditional pub fittings. Saved by the 4 well kept real ales

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Horse & Groom

Substantial two-bar pub with plenty of space on either side of the central change in level, but limited furniture and basic decor throughout. Pool table in the rear bar, which is also where the handpumps are to be found with Bass, Dark Star Hophead, Salopian Velocity and the local Dancing Duck Gold (£3.10) found. Non-stop 'Gold 10 Hits in a Row' from a TV's radio channel at more than background level mid-afternoon on a Friday hardly helped a first-time visitor warm to the place, but regular live music of a variety of genres advertised (and I suspect that is when it comes into its own). Although a bit out of the way, I hope to revisit at a more auspicious time...

Well off the beer trail in Derby, but well worth a visit. Nice range of beers on tap and an excellent pool table. this is not a pub that I would normally have visited if it were not for the reviews on this website. May never call again, but for no bad reason, it's just a bit far out.

Large, opened out pub that is pretty well hidden by being surrounded by a housing estate and a school. It's still got two distinctive rooms with a couple of steps between them. The inside hasn't got that much character left, but it is full of characters (both human and canine). Draught Bass is always available and on our visit there were 3 guest ales. I had a couple of these and both were in good condition. There is live folk music on Sundays and they also have a jazz night once a month. It's a bit off the beaten track, but it makes a good double header with the nearby Five Lamps. It's listed in the GBG2013 as well.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Horse & Groom

Quite a big pub this one and well supported by the locals. They run a good ship here as the place is spotless. Called in especially for their Beer Festival. Management and staff very friendly and down to earth. They had a great choice of ales at their fest, which I won't list out as I'll get boring. They also served up a great hot roast pork bap, which was excellent. Wonder whether they do these all the time. Will defo call again.

This pub serves a good selection of real ales which gained entry into The Good Beer Guide 2010 appears to have live entertainment also at the weekends.
