Steve C left this review about The Greyhound

The Greyhound has ten hand pumps spread across the front bar and smaller curved rear bar. This seems to be a Derby Brewing pub so the pumps in operation were drawing their Business as Usual, Single Hop Sessions, Hop Till You Drop and Mercia, which is the same total of four as the Derby Brewing Tap House I visited earlier in the day. The keg range also looked quite similar with premium and craft being available alongside Carlsberg. I did hear the barperson mention that the cask choice was a bit limited due to it being a Tuesday evening. The décor is very bland, but I enjoyed the rock music playing in the background. In an area with many great pubs I don’t think this place quite matches up.

An attractive looking pub that has been somewhat made over inside and although not particularly traditional it is a comfortable place for a pint. It is The Derby Brewery Tap as mentioned before but only three cask beers on during a Thursday afternoon visit, Derby Buckeye Brown, Mercia IPA and Business As Usual which was a well kept beer but not very exciting. An ok pub but only B list in the scheme of things.

Accessed of an alley in the middle of the building or through the adjoining front door, this is a modern trendy bar which opens out slightly at the rear. A bit basic and doesn't feel comfortable it does serve the Derby beer which was kept ok

This is the Derby Brewery Tap pub with several of their beers available. Its modern interior décor reminded me of some of the Leeds Brewery pubs and I actually like the bright modern interior with its light wood floor and bar and mixed clean white and stripped back light brick walls. The bar is in two sections either side of the central room partitioning with Derby Brewery pumps on both sides. Excalibur, Pennys Porter, Business as Usual, Old Intentional, triple Hop and Autumn Ale was on from the brewery and Magpie JPA was on as a guest.
The Penny’s Porter was a very nice beer and I found this a lively and enjoyable place to drink it.

Tap for the Derby brewery. Enter to the main bar with a dining area directly behind. The main bar is a mix of exposed brick and plasterboard walls. A stove fire and bits of artwork are in place but otherwise there’s little else of note; ‘minimalist’ is good word used below to describe it. I only noted six pumps with three ales on the crescent-shaped bar, however there must have been more farther round (blame the PuG bar-blockers?!). After a fairly rough Derby beer at the Smithfield earlier on in day I was a bit reticent but went for the Penny's Porter and to be fair it was a good beer in good shape and slipped down easily. It was decent enough place overall but I didn’t feel compelled to put it on the must-do list of Derby, it lacks charm.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Greyhound

Rather more modern inside than I was expecting from the traditional-looking façade, with a refurbished interior featuring seating areas on each side of the central bar and a dining room to the rear (and a patio beyond). Interesting selection of real ales from Derby Brewery, including Triple Hop and Penny's Porter (£1.55, half), from a total of eight handpumps. One of several good ale pubs in this area.

Traditional looking from the outside ,the interior has had a modern makeover but done well with lots of painting by a local artist decorating the walls throughout the building. The bar is in the middle of the building and it is worth wandering around to see the full ale range on offer. The pub is owned by the Derby Brewery and of their range there was a choice of Business as Usual (very good),Quarts Heart,Magpie JPA,Autumn Ale,Quintessential ,Penny Porter,AS and Triple Hop.I was on a brief pub crawl visit but having heard that Derby Brewery have got their act together and had a very decent drink,I would certainly come back for a longer stay to check out their range.Popular with a mixed clientele and some younger drinkers. One to include on any ale tourism when in Derby.

We call in here every time we visit Derby, so I thought it was about time I updated my review. I had another couple of pints in very good condition, both from Derby Brewery Desperately Seeking Summer and One Hop - East Kent Golding. Every time we visit this pub it seems to be a sunny day, so we sat outside in the pleasant beer garden yet again. Another very good pub, this part of Derby is really up and coming for real ale now.

This pub was bought by Derby Brewery and reopened on 28/05/10. They've ripped everything out and made it into a bare brick walls and wooden floor type of place, very similar to The Brewery Tap @ The Royal Standard. The other thing in common is that they have a large beer patio which allows smoking AND an upstairs outside patio which is no smoking. They also serve the five 1/3 pints plus a bowl of local cheese. The difference here is that they have a large selection of continental lagers and several wines, so you can have the tasting platter with beer, lager or wine. The whole pub is fairly minimalist and wouldn't appeal to everyone, but they've done a good job on another dead pub. There are 8 handpumps (I think) on the bar along with Budvar and Budvar Dark plus several other high end lagers. I had a pint of Derby Brewery's own Sunset Gold and Brew Company Suicide Blonde, Ms Camra had Rose wine having beered out at the festival. We went and sat on the pleasant beer patio at the rear of the pub in glorious sunshine. It's a good pub and well done to DBC for getting it reopened.

The main entrance is up a few steps, but there is a passage through the building to the patio behind, and this also has an entrance directly to the bar (it's the way out to the toilets which are the other side of the passage). Once inside, it's a modern re-imagining of an old pub, with bare brick walls alternating with plain white-painted plasterwork, tiles on the floor and a wooden framed bar with brick infill. An eclectic mix of tables and chairs included a few rather elegant armchairs arranged near the fire, which went down well with me as my arrival coincided with a wintry shower (I only popped in to keep my camera dry).

On the bar in the front room are six hand pumps, with four Derby beers and a guest ale and cider. In the room further round, which has large windows looking out to the patio, there were five further hand pumps, with one Derby beer repeated and two others making seven from their range at the time of my visit. I restricted myself to the Billy Bonka's Chocolate Brew, which was very bitter and chocolaty, being reminiscent of a bar of Bournville while still being identifiably a beer. This lasted me until the shower had passed, but I will certainly be back.

Another good pub not to be missed out. This Derby Brewing Co pub is modern and spacious. Staff are interested in the customer and are very knowledgeable. Good service and top notch food served. 8 ales on, I went for the Derby Business As Usual, Little White Lies, Titanic Brewery Lifeboat. Will call again.
