E TA left this review about Halfway House

A large Edwardian corner pub, with a good sized car park, on what was once a busy junction at the town's main road in. Now knocked through to form a single long bar, with a separate games room at the back. The latter contains a pool table. The main bar is floorboarded and is furnished with tables and chairs, and an open fireplace hosting a gas fire adds character of a 1960s sort . Free wifi is available. There are gaming machines and a tv screen showing sports. The staff were friendly and helpful. The locals were a mixed bunch, very cliquey overall. Two ales on – I has Young's Winter Warmer, which was in good nick although out of season. OK to drop in if passing.
