Much as it was last time I was here, with a restaurant through an archway from the bar. There is also a small area with a pool table and games machines round the back of the bar. Even on a Friday night, the whole place was quite sedate with a mainly middle aged to elderly clientele, many of whom were waiting to be seated in the restaurant. A pint of Stella Artois cost me £3.25 and Tennent’s and Peroni lagers, Guinness, Caledonia Best, Boddington’s and Magner’s and Strongbow ciders are also on draught. This is a good place for a quiet pint if you’d rather avoid loud music and TVs.

Across the road from Lanark Sheriff Court, this is a very pleasant and comfortable place for a relaxing drink if you ever have occasion to visit that establishment. The real fire, horse brasses, ornamental tankards and glasses hanging upside down from the bar ceiling give it something of the ambience of a traditional English pub. The smartly dressed staff are friendly and helpful and prices are reasonable. The small TV in the corner is unobtrusive and there is no loud music, so you don’t need to shout to have a conversation. There is also an adjacent restaurant and an upstairs function suite.
