Really unusual Y shaped interior with serving areas either side. Some exposed stone walls and painted ceiling beams with unique copper panelled uppers and lowers at the bar along with a very nice globe made of glass(?) fragments. Cask is on the right as you face from the outside, a choice of Doom Bar and Tiny Rebel Cwtch (NBSS 3.5). A friendly hello from the black bar lady which is always worth a bonus half mark. Live music advertised. Less touristy than many of the nearby pubs and I thought this was pretty decent in the context of Tenby on a hefty day of tourists. 6.5

A street corner pub in the heart of Tenby, it looks quite attractive with a number of hanging baskets outside, and these were regularly watered necessitating a quick dash in to the pub to avoid getting wet. In contrast with this, an A-board outside advertised Fosters and John Smiths, which is hardly likely to entice people in, I would have thought.

Inside, although effectively one single room, it is divided in to different areas by partition walling. It has quite a cosy ambience, with a low beamed ceiling adorned with fairly lights and some exposed stone walling with rough plasterwork elsewhere. Flooring was a mixture of tartan carpet and slate tiles around the bar counter. A large stone fire-place was towards the rear along with a pile of logs ready for the colder weather.

Beers on tap were Caledonian Flying Scotsman and Brains Bitter. The solitary cider was Strongbow, unfortunately.

The Five Arches Tavern occupies the prime position on the junction of Upper and Lower Frog Streets and St Georges Street, right in the tourist centre of Tenby. So it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that this place is food focussed and aimed at taking the visitors pound.
But in saying that, it does it quite well. Internally it’s quite a nice traditional pub decor and layout with the one roomed brick walled interior subdivided into several distinct sections with plenty of tabled seating.
There were several families in on the lunchtime I visited and , although I didn’t eat I could see why when looking at the food menu, as there is an extensive menu of tradition pub mains, which is complemented by an equally long children’s menu being smaller portions of the adult meals instead of some e-numbers with chips. And kids are allowed into the pub up to 9pm in the evening.
But also the beer was OK as well and it unusually for this neck of the woods seemed to be a Theakston house (although I could well have got that wrong) , and had Theakston Black Bull on hand pump along with Brains SA.
So, similar to the Buccaneer Inn, a pub that more fulfils the role of a restaurant, but decent enough all the same.
