The newish owners have made their mark since my last visit with a redecoration at the far end with modern art and innovative lighting, the central bar area remains much as before including the tartan carpet. The dining area at the left hand end looks nice from the doorway but I still haven’t been in there. The hand pumps are inaccessible from the customer side but a couple of clips on the wall inform you what’s on (two from Orkney today), only Guinness or Tennants on keg but a good few bottles are available.

New owners took over before the plague hit the UK, there is some connection to the Broad Chare in Newcastle. No cask at present due to plague and the prices were a bit over the top, £6.50 for a (very cold) 500ml bottle of Skye Red which are 4 for £9 at the brewery.

Skyes oldest inn built in 1790, located in a village designed by Thomas Telford on the north west side of the Waternish peninsula, so it’s a little isolated and maybe a bit less touristy than some places. A long thin white washed building in the village’s main street, ok it’s the only street in the village, with views across Loch Bay. Low ceilings with wood and exposed stone predominating it is furnished with comfortable traditional chairs and tables with a few wooden settles, fishing and drinks related matter forms the décor. There is a dining room cum sitting room at one end then to the right the long room with the counter then two sitting rooms divided by a wood burning stove and its chimney breast. To the rear is a pool room with some seating. The handpumps may not be immediately apparent as they are located at the far end of the L shaped bar facing one of the sitting rooms, but a black board at the bar end will say what is available on the three pulls, Deuchars IPA on one and a choice of Harviestoun ales on the other two, all I tried were in very good condition. A flying pig hovers over the pulls, that’s not a coded comment it’s just an observation. There is also a small range of bottled beers and a larger range of malts.
