Roger Button left this review about The Village Inn

This pleasant country pub strikes a good balance between being a place for the locals to gather and a restaurant that draws those from further afield.

The main L-shaped bar has quite a rustic feel with old beams, partly exposed walls, a tartan carpet and a few screens to segment areas of seating. There are some old local pictures including several of the past village football teams but the pub is generally neat, tidy and clutter free. A separate pool room also has a dart board and TV whilst the rear extension houses a spacious informal restaurant although food can be eaten in the main bar (and seemed to be the preference on the evening we visited).

The staff were very attentive and helpful and the place had an air of respectability and decency with a pleasant chatty ambience and unobtrusive music. There were 2 well kept ales, Ansells Mild and Caledonian Deuchars among the usual kegs and lagers. We also opted to dine and found the meals very good value with main lunch courses starting at around £5 and evening courses at around £9. Veggies seem to be well catered for and there are several gluten free options.

The pub and the village are a bit isolated even though they are situated on a fairly main road so it isn’t really a place you would generally come across unless you were specifically looking for it but it is certainly a good oprtion if you are anywhere near the area.
