On my first few visits to the Bell & Castle it was a Bass tied house with a few different rooms inside, the Bass was a decent drink.
Once inside the Bell & Castle has had a makeover and looks quite smart, the bar faces on entry, there is a long oblong shaped room which runs the width of the pub,the bar area has bench searing and chairs, the left side is larger and has chunky wood tables and bench seating with chairs, there is an open kitchen to the far left.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Salopian Oracle, which went down very well, the other real ales were Hartshorn Ignite,Skinners Cornish Trawler and Doom Bar.
The pub was reasonably busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.
The background music was decent.
I thought this was a pleasant enough pub to have a drink in.

A bit of a strange one is this. Obviously recently refurbished the main area of the pub was set up as a restaurant, but there was no-one eating on my Saturday night visit. There's an open kitchen, but this appeared to be closed. There's a separate function room to the left which was hosting a function that involved loud music and lots of daft girlies dancing and screaming outside. There's also another area in the beer garden that had a bouncy castle and lots of kids screaming. I'll bet the neighbours love the landlord here. Just to add to the racket there was a guy playing a guitar in the bar area of the pub. 6 handpumps on the bar with 5 on and my pint was in good nick. I just didn't warm to this place at all and I hated it on a Saturday night. Listed in the CAMRA GBG 2015. There are better places than this in Derby that aren't in the GBG.

A lot of money appears to have been spent refurbishing this large pub on the edge of the town centre, which had been closed for some time prior to its purchase by a local business man. It's very smart inside, with a multi-roomed layout that has been opened out in a sympathetic way. There are rough-hewn pine tables, tiled or parquet floors and a large and rather disconcerting mirror just behind the door, which surprises you as you turn away from the bar.

There are six hand pumps, serving one cider and five ales from localish breweries: Grainstore, Titanic, Dancing Duck, Naked Brewer and Stancil. Worthy of its place in the Good Beer Guide, this is definitely one to consider on any visit to Derby.
