poor. The landlord appears to know nothing about beer

This pub's character has changed out of all recognition since I last came here about 5 years ago. It consists of a well executed conversion of the hospital chapel, which has retained much of the charm the original building offered. A change of management has definitely been for the better - there are 4 ales on, they do reasonable food, and it is now more like a comfortable, welcoming local than the yoof club it previously was. An assortment of seating, magnificent wooden staircase, stained-glass windows, homely adornments and the original chapel floors all add to the pub's attraction. The landlord says he isn't really an ale fan, but it's hard to believe as his beer is very well kept, and he runs beer festivals in this pub. I had pints of Cotleigh Tawny, Exmoor Fox and Sharp's Red, all in excellent condition. Well worth a visit if in the area.

The Chapel is re-opening on Friday 16 November, under new ownership/management. This time it will be a proper village local, rather than the trumped-ip 'fine dining gastro-pub' in the wrong location that it was under the previous regime. Best of luck to the new owners, and see you on Friday.

Could the Chapel be re-opening soon. Rumour has it that it could.

Food was fine, but a little pricey for what it was. Didn't feel very welcoming, although can't put my finger on why exactly. They've obviously spent a fair bit of money on the place, but feels like its not quite sure what it wants to be. Wasn't very impressed with the beers

A former Chapel converted to a pub/restuarant, with the emphasis on food. The £15 entrance fee on new years eve was absolutely ridiculous; I'm surprised they had any visitors in at all. Four hand pumps are available but the beer range is unambitious, with the ever present Doom Bar and Otter Bitter plus 2 other equally unambitious guests, usually Cotleigh. The owners advertise the pub as a fine dining experience yet the entrance is strewn with fag ends and other litter and is far from welcoming. The location is wrong for fine dining; if I want to go out for an expensive meal I will go to The Castle Hotel in Taunton, for example. This location with it's vast customer potential suggest a village pub offering good quality and inexpensive food and drink would make a killing. The landlord, however, won't change tack and I am starting to think that he has lost the plot.
