Blue Scrumpy left this review about Hallgate Tavern

For a village, albeit a large one, Cottingham seems to have quite a nightlife. The Hallgate Tavern is situated quite close to the central crossroads and as I approached, I could hear some very loud music. Luckily, that was emanating from the Tiger Inn, just around the corner.

Nevertheless, the Hallgate was doing a very good trade and was also noisy in its own right. On a Friday evening, this was very much a youngesters' pub. There is a small room to the right as you enter and another little area with a TV and darts board to the left. In front is a bar that was not being used. However, if you continue through another area with TVs, the room eventually opens out to more seating with a further bar on the right-hand side.

Being a Marston's pub, the real ale choice is limited to Directors, Wainwright & Sunbeam, none of which appealed to me. With few seats available at the rear of the pub, I retreated back to the quieter section nearest the entrance and watched a bit of Premier League football before making a fairly sharp exit.

Judging by the previous review, you may get a different experience at different times of the week. For me, it was all a bit too noisy and chaotic for my liking.

Alan Winfield left this review about Hallgate Tavern

The Hallgate Tavern is in the centre of Cottingham and it looks like a small quaint pub from the outside but dont be fooled by the looks of this pub because when you go in this pub is a lot bigger and is more like a city centre drinking barn with tv screens dotted about the place and lots of space for upright drinking.
This is a Marstons house and there were no real ales on here with the only bitter being keg Pedigree.
The pub was empty on my visit and i wont be going in this pub again.
