It's been a while since I updated this review despite visiting loads of times during the last couple of years. We called in again last night and nothing has really changed. Two Marble beers available and my pint of Draft was excellent as usual. Sat with a friendly bunch at the long table. It's still a decent place to call in.

This is the latest venture from the Marble Brewery. As it's in the Northern Quarter (N/4) it's always going to be quirky. It's only one small room. There's a 3 seater sofa on the left as you enter and one long table that can seat about 14 and that's it. The bar is on the right and has 4 barrels actually sat on the bar with their backs to you and the beer clip on the back. They're each set on one of those clever contraptions that raises the barrel as it empties. No handpumps here, it's gravity only. All four were from Marble when I visited last Friday, but this may change. I had a pint of the Summer Marble which was excellent. They have a large range of Belgian bottles as well which are a little more pricey than Fringe, but not too bad. They also sell food which is marked up on a blackboard. There are more veggie options than carnivore. Don't come in here and expect to get a glass of wine or a spirit, it's beer only. It is very quirky and I like it, although it wouldn't be to everyone's taste.

This is another Marble Brewery bar, which had two casks on the bar counter seemingly dispensing a ginger flavoured ale, and and another one called “Pint”, both by gravity. There were another two casks on the counter not in use, and presumably settling. They advertised the same cheese/bread/biscuit offer as the Mable Arch.
The Pint was an excellent ale. I do recall that at one point my companion glanced down at his glass and observed that his ale had inexplicably disappeared and thus was forced to repair to the bar for replenishment. This is a common phenomenon experienced by drinkers imbibing excellent ale.
This is another pub/bar in the modern style. There was one long wooden table, accompanied by some normal chairs, and a few sofas as a contrast. I was told that this place only had a beer license. As modern bars go, this was a pretty decent one.

Awesome Bar, Awesome Service, Awesome Beer.

What a lovely place to while away an evening (or day!:))

Marble Beers are excellent, even more so due to them being served under gravity, I've never tasted the Ginger or Pint as nice as it is here. If you don't fancy one of the casks the staff will be more than willing to help you choose either a German or Belgian bottled beer which has resulted in me trying to taste the whole list! (around 70 i think!) The staff really know their stuff too, and are passionate and excited about what they serve. Have seen some of the brewers floating about in the evening, it's nice to see them enjoying their work.

Also aleand hearty- they usually have 4 casks on, but due to them not having a cellar, and therefore only four stillaging racks(?) they wouldn't of served under vented beer- even if it was busy. This is Marble remember- they do know how to look after beer.

Couldn't recommend enough- lovely cheese too.

As a visitor in town for the National Winter Ales Festival, this bar was suggested as a quieter alternative venue, for Marble beers, to the almost inevitably rammed Marble Arch. Ultimately though, it proved rather disappointing. ROBCamra’s description of the interior pretty much nails it, although the corrugated galvanised steel ceiling is probably worthy of mention. (See para below.)

Unfortunately, only two of the four casks on the bar were in use, serving ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Ginger’. However, quality of the ‘Chocolate’ was fine, even if the service was a little brusque. Yet, my main concern, for such an intimate venue, was an almost total lack of warmth. To me, it was akin to drinking in an enclosed delivery bay, surrounded by a rather precious urban professional clientele. Of course any visit is a snapshot and a different crowd, plus four barrels on the go, might well have made it all feel very different. To that end, it’s probably worth a second chance; especially considering the quality of Marble beers, but if I were to call again it would be with some hesitancy.
