The Nags Head is a large whitewashed former Bass pub on the busy main road into Nottingham city centre from the north. It forms part of the long Mansfield road pub run and is usually included towards the end as people approach town. The pub has had a lot of management changeovers over the last few years and because of this has fallen I into a bit of a farce as yet another landlord leaves and another come into a pub in a worse state than it was previously. The pub has a centrally located bar that serves front on as you enter and beds around the right hand side with the main building bending round in an L shape to the back room that previously used to be a separate room much like the front bar but this has now all been opened out. The decor is pretty bland with hard wooden floors throughout with not much in the way of furnishings so it is not the comfiest place to be especially in winter. The biggest attraction is the medium sized concrete smoking area/garden that has its own u undercover shelter that on my visit was hosting its usual Sunday karaoke that the thirty or so punters seemed to be enjoying a great deal. This leads me on to another thing, this is a locals boozer in the city boundary so expect to find locals off the nearby St Anns estate rather than town goes/tourists. Unsurprisingly the beer selection was just the standard keg with them saying they could not compete with the Lincolnshire poacher across the road so they removed their tiny selection of real ales which to me is a poor excuse and now removes the miniscule reason I ever had to visit here. My Guinness was £3.50 and was not in the best of shape. Overall this is a pretty poor town boozer with less than desirable drinkers and rubbish beer. There is absolutely no reason to come here with the poacher across the road and I don’t intend to come back any time soon.

The Nags Head used to be a Bass tied house.
This pub has been opened out over the years and is now one large room with the bar in the middle so there are lots of different drinking areas.
The pub is carpeted throughout and is quite smart and comfortable there were three real ales on here and the Nottingham Extra Pale Ale was a decent drink the other beers were Nottingham Bullion and Hobgoblin.
This is a fairly decent pub which you can usually get a seat in.
