An imaginative approach to the selection of real ales, makes this an attractive wetherspoons.

Before this establishment was converted into one unit, one half was a fabric shop called Watsons (and at some point, Brentfords). The other half was Cafe Uno. The photo was taken in April 1999.

A large Wetherspoons over two floors in what used to be a Bank. But this was not a Wetherspoons conversion as it was a pub / nightclub called the Toad at the Olde Bank before that shut in 2005 to become another night club called Quo Pasa until finally Wetherspoons took it over in 2009 and done it up with the interior it has today.
Decent enough upstairs and downstairs areas with a décor very similar to several other ‘spoons up and down the land. But the highlight is definitely the large interconnecting mirrored stairwell that connects the two.
Then the lowlight is the location of the toilets in the basement which give you the impression that you’ve gone down and travelled by corridor into the building next door before you actually find them.
The bar on the lower floor supports seven real ale handpumps and Abbot, Ruddles and Purity Mad Goose are the house ales on at all times. The much smaller bar to service the upstairs floor also has these three on hand pump. The other four ales on the main bar are constantly changing but are usually from local smaller breweries. Dockside Dark from the Gloucester Brewery and Hook Norton Hooky were on for my visit on Saturday and Otter Amber had been added for my Bank Holiday Monday evening visit.
A comfortable enough ‘spoons that was more comfortable than the other Tim’s empire outlet and the wannabe ‘spoons offerings at the east end of the High street in my opinion.

Very large Wetherspoon's that seems to be fairly new and sells a good range of real ales.
