I tried two decent beers in here, which were in good shape, Arbor Brewery, Blue Sky Drinking and Brightside Brewery Best Bitter. There were seven handpumps in use and a selection of sandwiches in a basket on the bar counter. Definitely worth a visit for the beer quality alone.

I've not much to add to what others have said. It's a decent enough pub to add to a crawl, but not a destination pub in its own right. It had a reasonable selection of ales, and the Siren Driftwood I had was in fine condition. I spotted a sign advertising free wi-fi, and a sheaf of dried hops was strung along the top of the wall by the bar. An area on the right had a large solid pine table, as well as a pine constructed fireplace.

I didn't mind this pub at all, but I guess it might be more comfortable when it was a bit quieter with no Pubs Galore crawlers all over the place. But obviously the atmosphere was top notch with esteemed clientele present.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Three Tuns

Small, 'L'-shaped bar area with a mix of furniture but fairly bare in terms of decor. Very busy late afternoon on a Friday, but thankfully managed to find a perch near the entrance to grab a bite to eat. Good choice of interesting beers, including a good pint of Siren Driftwood (£3.80) and two from Arbor Ales the former owners. Doesn't look too interesting from the street, but certainly worth calling in if passing.

An L shaped bare boarded room, standard seating to the front and sofas to the rear. Large scrubbed tables, large mirrors including one to the rear with hops draped over. There is a light wood surround fireplace in the front bar area. A serious pub for serious beer drinkers, Arbor Ales are showcased with Sonnet, Dark Alliance, Transpacific and Brigstow on offer plus Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout, Liverpool Organic Shipwreck and Yeovil Ales Somerset. Additionally there were six boxes of ciders on the bar top. I have to add that my companion felt that the white wine was pretty crap, perhaps sometimes pubs need to be more all rounders.
Regardless, I liked it here, even if I felt rather old, the clientele are a young and lively studenty type and the stark decor make for a loud environment.
Outdoor covered drinking available to the rear side with patio heaters.

This pub has not made it into the Good Beer Guide yet, but I am sure it will get it's place there before long. It is brilliant for real ale choice, and there were also around 6 real cider cases stacked and labelled on the bar for those who prefer it. We could have spent longer here, but it was our last port of call and we had a bus to catch, but we managed 3 beers new to us, all in good condition. Dorset Piddle Jimmy Riddle and Teignworthy Winter Daze was followed by an excellent Dark Star Tripel at 8.5%. Superb. Across the top of the bar were brief tasting notes for each beer - very useful to know that the Jimmy Riddle did not taste of wee! A brilliant pub and we will make a beeline for this one next time we come to Bristol.

The above review was in February 2011. Revisited it on Saturday.

This pub has made it into the 2012 Good Beer Guide, and deserves it's place. Still a great beer selection, and we chose Milton Dionysus and the 6.3% Arbor Nibiru IPA. Both excellent condition and very enjoyable. The tables were lovely large scrubbed ones and they have music events and beer festivals. Seating outside in a patio area at the back.

Since my previous review, this has been further improved pub and is now part of the Arbor Ales stable. The interior has had a bit of a makeover as far as I recall, and with it’s reclaimed wooden flooring and a chunky wood tables has a suitably rustic feel to it. The paint scheme is mostly (gastro-pub?) grey, and there’s even a little exposed brickwork at the rear along with some comfy leather sofa’s.

Landlord was friendly and chatty, and volunteered a couple of samples of the cider without any prompting. I’m not sure they do much in the way of food, although there were a couple of notices up regarding Sunday lunch.

Beers on this occasion were DBL's Ammonite and Jurassic; Pot Belly Brewery'a Beijing Black and four from Arbor - Inferiority Complex, Approved, Slumberjack and Weißbier. The regular cider on tap was Thatcher’s Gold, but there also a couple of boxes from Gwynt Y Ddraig on the end of the bar serving their Happydaze and Farmhouse Scrumpy. On a previous visit there were five of their cases on the end of the bar. Whether they've reduced it as they weren't getting through them, or the stock had all sold out, I'm not sure.

All in all a great pub, well worth a visit.

Great to see this pub re-opened again having been up to let for some time. Layout is pretty much unchanged, it just seems to have had a lick of paint and the pool table has made room for some more seating.

Unfortunately it was very quiet on a recent Monday night, with just two other punters sat at the bar, and I think they may have been staff – they certainly knew the barmaid. Perhaps word hasn't got round yet that it has re-opened. It's worth popping in as they are obviously making an effort and deserve some support – otherwise it will just close again and probably not re-open next time.

Eight hand pumps on the bar, although “only” four in use on my visit – but they were a pretty good selection: Arbor Ales Brigstowe Bitter and Beach Blonde, plus TT Landlord and Bristol Beer Factory No. 7. Also Ashton Press cider.

Studenty pub!

Not surprising since it is directly alongside City of Bristol College.

Mind you, you are probably more likely to see the staff in here than the students as the college tends to cater to those too young to go to pubs (legally) and we all know how much teachers like a drink!
