Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Old Gate Inn

Historic Vintage Inn at the site of the former Dover Road toll-gate, created from an agglomeration of buildings of different ages and styles and still acting as a hotel as well as a pub / restaurant. Usual semi-traditional furniture and decor in the various seating / dining areas. Disappointingly, just Doom Bar (£3.80) available from the four handpumps.

Another visit to Canterbury Nov.2012.No rooms available, was dissapointed.Called in for a Lunchtime meal.Menu card changed, alot of Fish.No more Steak & Ale Pie,etc.Very dissapointed and noticed all wine glasses on all tables dirty (most probably Dish washer used). Also used tables were still not cleaned. Not again sorry to say.Surprised to see this lovely Pub still belongs to vintage inns.

Stayed here twice.Very cosy.Nice double bedroom.Old Coaching Inn with character & open fireplace.Very good menu card. Living in Germany since 13 years so buffet breakfast needs to be English breakfast which needs early morning kitchen staff unfortunately.

E TA left this review about The Old Gate Inn

Built on near the site of the old City toll gate in around 1780, the Old Gate Inn (previously At The Sign Of The Gate) is now a Mitchell and Butler pub/restaurant with associated bed and breakfast facilities, an updated version of its former role as a coaching inn. Plenty of parking and right next to the old A2 in Bridge, it is easy to find and very accessible. Mostly set up for dining, there are lots of small nooks and crannies which give it an intimate feel. There are lots of exposed oak features, some old but many fake, exposed stone flooring and a mixture of fireplaces. The food menu is extensive, it came well cooked and was good value for money. It's a bit lacking in atmosphere, and I found it too noisy for the number of customers inbut the staff were friendly and helpful. Only 2 ales on, amnd I had a pint of each - Watkins's OSB and Doombar. The Doombar was in perfect condition, but the OSB was a bit off, lacking any real taste, but still just about drinkable. Worth stopping for a meal when passing, but I'm not sure it's somewhere I would spend an evening unless overnighting in the B&B.
