Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Pub du Vin

Cellar bar located underneath the Hotel du Vin but with its own entrance. Mix of lounge and table seating around small square central counter. Subdued lighting and decor, with various features of interest including several wine stores at the sides. Two of three handpumps in operation, with Kinver Light Railway and Silhill Blonde Star (£3.10, but not in the best condition) when I visited.

Old Boots left this review about Pub du Vin

Subterranean dark bar with soft furnishings and tables and chairs, a slate floor and plain buff walls hung with old adverts, arty photos and inevitably I suppose wine adverts and cabinets of wine bottles. The three hand pumps serve local micro-brewers Kinver and Purity plus a guest, my Kinver Light Railway was excellent. There are also three standard keg fonts. As well as restaurant style food it also offers traditional pub snacks like Pork Pies, Scotch eggs, sausage rolls etc. There is a feeling of jumping on a real ale bandwagon but the beer is well kept so who cares, unless you dislike the decor, ambience or fellow punters, however it is very pleasant and civilised and I was asked if I was a CAMRA member so I could get my discount.

The Pub du Vin is a cellar bar in within the Hotel du Vin. The hotel is in fact a conversion from a Victorian building; the Birmingham & Midland Eye Hospital, which moved into these premises in the 1880s. The building is in red brick with moulded stone lintels and string courses. It is in a continental style with its Dutch dormer windows and there is a fantastic oriel window.

The interior is effectively an open-plan area around a central island serving bar. The decor is yellow walls and ceiling with a stone flag floor. Being in a cellar, there are lots of alcoves and archways - it feels like you are in Morocco - I expected Beau Geste to be serving the beer! There is a side room, with an expose brick wall. High stools and tables, sofas, comfy chairs, arm chairs are juxtaposed with settles to give an eclectic mix; the same is true with the old photos, bistro art, mirrors and wine bottles used for decoration. There was a TV which had ESPN sports on and the background music was 60s based and at a decent level. The service was fine and there was a mixed and slightly maturer clientele.

Beer; tap stuff with Freedom lagar, with a single handpull on on this visit, which was Two Towers Mott MILD, nice enough if a little flat.

I place i pop into infrequently, as it is expensive and a lacks a little atmosphere - for me it is more a place to take the better half than to go with mates.

Enjoyed my visit here, I entered from the Hotel side of the pub where you proceed down some narrow stone steps. Have to say the staff here were very knowledgeable and passionate about the ales they were serving. Four ales on Kinver Light Railway, Purity Mad Goose, Two Towers Baskerville and Two Towers Gold. All were excellent condition, also they served Freedom lager a traditional hand crafted lager brewed in Stafford. You can have your beer served in a tankard and prices are now pretty much in line with the Welly. Very good pork pie, Will call again.

Missed out on the beer festival here, and hadn't been in before so started a crawl here on Wednesday lunchtime. A few people in eating, but I thought it a bit pricey, and agree there was no atmosphere. Trendy place for the young office workers I would say, but good to see a couple of real ales on from Purity and Kinver. Kinver 4.0% beer £1.60 a half. TV screen showing news.

Character of place - excellent
Atmosphere - a bit dead

because... you'll need to take out another mortgage to get a round in. Go to the hotel bar upstairs - prices are the same but busier for people watching.
Or the Old Joint Stock about 300 yards away, still pricey (but not as pricey) but better atmosphere.

(Maybe I have been living in a JDW price bubble for too long ?)

Six of us went in here on Saturday evening at about 8.30. We were celebrating a 40th birthday. It was the last day of their own beer festival so I didn’t expect great things in terms of ale choice. There were a few remaining plus the offerings at the bar of Urban Ales (Hockley) Brew Brew and Purity Mad Goose.

As Danny points out, this a cellar converted to a bar. It’s quite contemporary and modern and even though I wouldn’t have said it was particularly busy (a few dozen people in there), there wasn’t much in the way of seating either. Clientele was typically 20s to early 40s. Some music was being played at a level that allowed conversation and even though I wasn’t looking for a party atmosphere at all I felt it was a bit flat. Each to their own, I like pubs with character so this was a bit too trendy and there are other places locally that I prefer but others obviously would (and do) like it.

Ironic, then, that we moved on to the aptly named Old Contemptibles and the mood of the group seemed to lighten somewhat.

In Birmingham's Professional Quarter, this appears to be a bar in a corner of the Hotel Du Vin's wine cellar.

Its actually excellent, a typical room I guess for this area of the City, there is access down stairs from the hotel reception but also from the street, the corner of Church Street and Edmund Street, don't be put off thinking its closed, its just a modern double glazed entrance door.

Modern inside, they have taken the cellar theme on, it feels like a downstairs bar. There is a central bar, black/grey slate slabs and sofas. There is also a 'study' to one side. There are various glassed off/display areas showing bottles of whisky, wine and cigars.

I think its very well done, add in the fact they support Camra's locALE scheme, have beer festivals and whisky tastings and it ticks the right boxes. Very well kept real ale - ABC Heartlands, Purety Mad Goose, and Kinver Light Railway (well, Staffordshire's not THAT far).

Very professional, but it works.

Beer £3.10 a pint, which isn't actually that bad for the City, considering its connected to the hotel.

Well worth a visit.
