Some good and very bad newa. Went there today, great food, good beer, including Enville! Bad news there are notices everywhere to say that it is closing on 16th Sept' 2012 as Punch (scum-bag) Taverns have sold the site for housing.

The Cross Guns is now under new management and had abit of a facelift. A new menu has been introduced although there is still the carvery which is now serving 4 meats beef pork turkey and gammon and upto 10 FRESH locally produced fresh vegetables and 3 types of potato. They do steaks sourced from the local butcher/farms which are amazing and run many special offers for various days like luchtime specials and half price Thursday although that is a limited offer. Jon and Jess are the new managers there and are eager to help out, keen to bring the pub back to what it was in its hey day. Beers on offer are traditional ales from Wye Valley including HPA and Butty Bach along with guiness carling and stella. Very nice selection of wines to include carafs of house wine - very well worth a visit.

This is an old pub with a modern single storey restaurant extension, it is a privately owned free house registered under the business name of Aurora Taverns. The interior is open plan but it has two distinct areas, on the left of the entrance is the public bar area which was two small rooms but has now been knocked through into one larger room, it has an L shaped bar counter against the back wall, a pool table in the front left corner, a simple stove in the left hand wall and a large flat screen TV showing football on the back left wall next to the counter. The décor is fairly modern and minimalist but not unpleasant. On the right of the entrance is the single storey extension which has a totally different décor that has a bit of a Mediterranean feel to it, this is the restaurant area with tiled floor, white walls, bare brick arches and modern furniture with modern multi coloured plates and paintings on the walls. It is on two levels, the lower level being at the back of the room where there is a carvery serving counter in the back left corner.
Regular ales are Banks’s Bitter and Theakston Old Peculiar with no changing guest beers. Unfortunately both of these had run out and as we were eating I was forced to make a rather hurried choice (table service) which was John Smiths on keg. Lord forgive me! not one of my finest moments, I was quite disappointed with myself.
I think Soup Dragon had the misfortune to visit just when the pub was going through a change of ownership. Not a bad place really, just a bit modern and continental for my taste. Shame the proper beer had run out but Old Peculiar as a regular is a nice perk (when it’s on!). At the moment the carvery is only available on Sundays and is priced at around £8.00, there is a set menu for the rest of the week and there is table service. The food has been good when I have visited, I would visit again if in the area.

Dawn & Mark Welcome you to The Cross Guns Inn. We are opening our doors on Wednesday the 22nd of September.
We will be hosting a new full menu served allday everyday. Oh and we will be open 7days aweek, with some great local ales.

In a Mr McCooney voice...
I went there on a Monday......... and it was closed - lights out
I went there on a Tuesday........ and it was closed - with a note on the door, saying we are now closed Mondays and Tuesdays, sorry for any inconvenience, so....
I went there on a Wednesday...... and it was still damn closed.
I'll not go back, they've gone too far!
