Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Star & Garter

Upmarket hotel lounge bar, with a good position overlooking the Thames (particularly if you get one of the best tables by the windows). Modern furniture and decor. Relaxed background jazz. Also has the Cellar Bar and Ballroom (neither visited). Small patio out front. Slightly surprisingly, the counter features two handpumps; one dispensing Greene King IPA Gold (£4.00) and the other with a reversed Old Speckled Hen clip.

A large riverside pub with a very modern refurb internally, making it feel more like a cocktail bar than pub.The modern bar runs along a back wall ,while sofas and high tables allow decent views over the Thames. To the left of the bar, there is a lounge area full of soft sofas,a raised area with dining type tables and a glass partitioned private room with it's own door if you want to get away from the hubub.Around the bar is an area for vertical drinking while down the steps outside the road is lined by some high tables for exterior drinking. There is also a Cellar Bar,unexplored by me.Just two handpumps with the uninspiring GK IPA Gold (in poor condition) as the only option on my trip (the GK IPA was reversed).Pricing was inline with very trendy bars and there was wallet shock after I was stung for a round.A triumph of style over substance,I can see little reason for a revisit.

The last time I was in here was New Year's Eve 1987. I remember at that time it was a bit lairy and that many young women were lifting their tops and flashing their boobs. I doubt that sort of thing goes on now as it appears to have changed somewhat!

Soon after moving to lovely Putney, we visited the Star & Garter. The wine list is for real enthusiasts and the walk in cheese room serves well for those who love cheese or those who want to cool off during a hot summer day (ok, maybe not:)
Definitely an experience kind of place. Recommend!

I popped my head in this place the other evening as we were passing, and that was enough to convince me that it was not my sort of place. I suppose the purple neon lights outside proclaiming it to be a “wine bar”, was some sort of clue. Inside it looks like a hotel cocktail lounge. There’s obviously no real ale.
