On our travels to Alcester, we noticed that The Fish had reopened so we decided to pop in. The interior of the pub has had a declutter, and little remains of the previous decor . As before, the pub is set out for dining, but this was not a negative. My partner ordered an ale, unfortunately we can't remember the name, but it was in excellent condition. In fact it was so good, that my partner ordered another pint.
We decided to sit outside in the lovely beer garden, which is idyllicly situated next to the River Arrow. Some very tame Geese came to enjoy the surroundings. Maybe the pub should consider stocking Mad Goose!
But seriously, we had a lovely time, and would have stayed longer if we had not wanted to travel to Alcester.

Well described by others, the range of weird and wacky objects has, if anything, expanded. It's worth a look just for that but feels a bit cramped and all laid up for eating. Anyway main reason for visiting is the extensive garden down to the river, with some nice gazebos for shade or shelter. All have reserved signs on them but you are fine outside of mealtimes.

Just Butty Bach and HPA on the pumps, we stuck to eurofizz due to the heat. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Not sure where to start with this one. It is a pub full of slogans, nick nacks, mannequins, including a couple of rather large apes. You could wander round all day and not see everything. The beer was ok but rather mainstream. We chose Purity Mad Goose which was fine. A very large garden takes you down to the river with a camping field.

Not my cup of tea. All too jolly, with jokey slogan signs, a shark above the door and plenty of mannequins and nick nacks.

Roaring fire that made the place hotter than the sun.

Nowhere for a drinker to sit - mainly setup for dining.

Family play areas.

5 of the 6 handpulls were turned around but no complaints with my Wadworth 6x

The Fish is situated close to the River Arrow, the pub is set sideways onto the road.
Once inside the main room was oblong shaped, there were tables laid out for diners near the entrance with some in use,the serving bar was to the rear left, the seating in this area was normal tables and chairs, there was a very high ceiling in this area, there was what looked to be like a proper bar area to the rear left, but this area was too busy for us to drink in.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Purity Mad Goose which was a nice drink but served without a smile, the other beers were Wye Valley Butty Bach and Hobgoblin.
The pub was very busy with drinkers and diners on our Saturday dinner visit.
Other reviewers seem to like this pub, but this was the second worst pub of our visit to the Alcester area.

Modernised country pub, and I would agree with Roger Button below that they have thought about the drinking/dining mix and made an excellent effort to combine the two.

The eating are is as you walk in from the car park and, although slightly too bright for me, is well set out & includes a real fire. The drinking area is at the rear.

A nice menu, I was quite surprised to see they offer some of the dishes at a fiver.

Beautiful garden on the river bank adjoining the brick road bridge.

Very friendly, efficient staff

Overall I thought this was a great mix of old/new, beer/food. I will have to go back again.

Roger Button left this review about The Fish

The Fish is a welcoming and appealing old country pub with its leaded partly stained glass windows, gables, ivy clad walls and riverside location. The interior has plenty of beams, pillars and exposed brickwork despite being obviously refurbished, extended and opened up although the pub still retains its old world charm. Fortunately they have managed to find a decent balance between diners and drinkers with the area near the main door with its large brick fireplace mainly for the diners and the drinking area situated by the carpeted, barrel shaped main bar with its views up through the beams into the superb vaulted roof. There are plenty of pots and pans, bottle racks, lanterns, horseshoes and various nick nacks on display but a visit to the loos may take longer than expected as the corridor doubles up as a mini museum with wartime newspapers, old signs, 19th C key collections and various odds and sods. The furnishings are rustic with settles and plain wooden seating which blend in well with the ambience. 3 Ales when I was there (admittedly some time ago) - Black Sheep, Adnams and Spitfire. To the rear is a public bar with games machines & TV. They do speciality food nights (Steak on Thursdays, Fish on Fridays) but I didn't get a chance to eat here so cannot comment on the quality. The extensive beer garden takes advantage of its setting on the banks of the River Arrow and has a childrens play area so there isn't really an excuse not to pay a visit if in the area.
