Although the Dog and Badger bills itself as a pub / restaurant it is certainly more restaurant than pub now with it being a 60 seater restaurant with a bar section bolted onto the front.
That’s a slightly demeaning description because the 2015 refurb has been done very well providing a modern clean restaurant section whilst retaining the period beams of this Grade II listed building, and then a new timber framed glass conservatory extension added on to the end of the building to house the equally modern Riverside bar section. The only issue is that it’s not much of a pub experience and yes, the first thing that happens as you enter the shiny glass conservatory is that you do get accosted by a gatekeeper station even before you reach the bar quizzing you to whether you are dining or not.
The plus side is that the smallish front bar section is quite comfortable and is dog and walker friendly and the shiny bar top does have three ale handpumps with two ales in the form of Fullers London Pride and Rebellion Zebedee being available for our visit, and the Rebellion brew was well kept. We were fitting the description of walkers on this particular lunchtime and it did meet the brief of somewhere to rest with a decent pint and a packet of crisps. But on seeing this fine listed building from the outside I would have preferred a proper pub on the inside and not something that would not be out of place in a nightclub.

Reopened now, and much fawning over patrons as to whether they are eating or not. Décor is very much Banksyeque and there are more gins and whiskies than you can shake a stick at. Not my cup of tea, but a beer from a local stable (Malt the Brewery) was good to see, and having been closed for an age one hopes they can tap into the well-moneyed in this drive-through between Marlow and Henley.
