Super live music venue - with decent beer and plentiful whiskies.

A real joy. Highly recommended and best in Inverness,

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Hootananny

Well-known music bar, but with a Saturday afternoon ceilidh in full swing when I called in, with a mostly older clientele (some of whom were dancing sedately) and not at all what I was expecting. Stage at the front, with most of the tables between this and the bar area further back. Two more bars / venues on the upper floors. Two Black Isle beers on handpump - organic Heather Honey and Red Kite (£4.00).

A quiet Monday afternoon but I was welcomed as I ordered halves of the two Black Isle beers on draught. Good quality, liked the place but would no doubt be manic late evening.

Famous for its live music, Hootananny also boasts a Thai restaurant upstairs. The pub consists of a multi-floor building in the Town centre, minimalist n terms of furnishing and decor, welcoming and lively. There always seems to be some sort of rock/pipe band playing, ans the Highland theme reigns supreme here even if it does include a rock music twist. The beer is always superb, both draft and bottled - I had Black Isle Honey Heather this time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's loud, it's popular and it's very Scottish. Well worth a visit if you can stand the noise of cats' being strangled while you enjoy your beer. .

Positively bristling with awards, this place was extremely busy, with standing room only in the downstairs bar, on both the Thursday and Friday nights I visited. It has been voted Best Scottish Music Venue in Scotland 2005, Scottish Music Pub of the Year 2010 and a local newspaper's Pub of the Year every year from 2006 to 2010. It also boasts award winning Thai cuisine. A very popular music venue, there are ceilidhs every Saturday afternoon and live Scottish music every night. Although it advertises rock upstairs and reel downstairs, the band in the downstairs bar were playing rock music, including the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar," very loudly, on the Thursday night. Worth a visit if you like the music on offer, but go early if you want a seat.
