Traditional feeling place. A bit of a warren inside with a number of rooms, we settled in the main area with green carpet and banquettes rather than the lovely picket-fenced front garden due to the intense heat. There’s a sports room with pool and darts also. Three ales on the go; GK IPA, Grainstore Steelback IPA, Shippos Gold Star (very good nick), served-up by a friendly guv'nor. A good solid pub and a nice 20 minute stop.

Having been assured, without prompting and by two separate people, that this was the best pub in the village, I must admit to being a little disappointed. It was a very quiet Sunday evening when I was here, and it may well have been much busier during the afternoon. When I entered there was just a barman and two young girls who I suspect were off duty waiting staff. Two locals came in during the time I was there, but there was no atmosphere to speak of. It's quite a large building in local stone, as is most of this very pleasant Rutland village. Entering from the garden, there's a small pool room to the right, then an L-shaped room which has the bar in two sections. Further on, there's a large dining room which I presume has its own entrance from the car park.

I sat in one part of the L, near to a fireplace, and it is on the section of bar in this room that the three hand pumps are to be found. These had Brewsters Hophead, Greene King IPA and Oldershaw Grantham Dark. I had the latter, and this was a very nice mild in good condition. Presumably there are nights when Greetham is less like a ghost town, as I don't imagine anyone could make a living out of the trade that went on when I was here!
