Visited on Saturday with a friend as part of the Calder Valley real ale trail. It is quite café like in style but happens to do alcohol, rather than feeling like a bar or pub. Well I say it feels like a café, it actually felt more like a library or dentist waiting room. It was unnaturally quiet. Service was not unfriendly but a little curt perhaps and you feel as if the owner is waiting to find an excuse to have a go at you. It just had a bit of a bad atmosphere. Perhaps it could do with a bit of piped background music to lighten the tone a bit. At any given opportunity the owner was "on patrol" adjusting the windows so they were all open by the same amount and straightening up menus and beer mats on the tables.

That said there are lots of interesting artefacts on the walls, old enamel signs, posters etc, and an old clock above the entrance door. At the bar are six hand pumps but only three were in use when we visited. I had a Volk by Wishbone which had a bit of an unusual taste to it, but I think that was just the way the beer was rather than any quality issues at this establishment.

Overall, not the kind of place that makes you feel comfortable or particularly welcome, and despite its handiness for the train station I would not rush to come back, and if I did return it would be to sit outside (where there are three picnic tables, probably perfectly aligned).

I didn't visit the toilet so didn't get to experience the joy of asking permission to go.

A nice station side pub. 6 handpumps on the bar but only 3 on serving Salamander Auspicious, Geeves Dough Boy Vanilla Porter and Roosters Cogburn. A nice place to finish/start your day.

We decided to make this our first port of call on our visit to Sowerby Bridge after stepping from the train. The interior consists of one long room with the refreshment counter and kitchen located on the left hand side. They had a selection of hot food, which included every sort of filled tea cake you could imagine, steak pies, pork pies, Chorley and Eccles cakes.
There was a choice of 6 ales on handpump, so we went for the Elland Sanctuary and Goose Eye Spring Wells. Both beers were reasonably priced and were in great shape.
The décor was cream paintwork with green border, large Art Deco style ceiling lamps. A trip to the toilet was getting a code no. for the entrance door or a member of staff pressing a door release from the counter. The place was very well run and very clean and tidy.

A seperate building in the station forecourt, but clearly an original part of the collection of buildings. The interior is spartan with refreshment room tables and chairs so the small bar sporting 5 handpumps at one end of the high ceilinged room was a surprise. The barman and a couple of regulars engaged in a lot of trainspotter type conversation but were friendly enough.Three handpumps were working on my Monday afternoon visit, with Goose Eye Maillot Jeune,Mallinsons On Yer Bike and Wilson Potter Gingery on offer.Well done to the team here for at least being open on a quiet afternoon, but the lack of ale throughput may have been the reason for a pint which may have been in the pipes for a little longer that it should have been. However the outside tables offer a good exterior drinking option while waiting for your train. Not my sort of place for a long session despite the loyality scheme(Buy 10 pints GOF),but a useful place for a quick one.

Another handsome station boozer in this part of the world.
The refreshment rooms are a traditional, stone built station building, attractive and very well kept from the outside with a few solid wooden tables where you can enjoy an alfresco pint.
I'm afraid that it is there that my knowledge ends as I was bought a pint and didn't go inside although my Goose Eye Maillot Jeune went down reasonably well and was in fair shape.
Well worth popping in (or staying outside) if arriving by train.

Old Boots left this review about The Jubilee Refreshment Rooms

Lovingly restored railway refreshment room that has a fine line in well kept local micro ales, long and thin in shape it might be a little too spartan for modern tastes. There are six original Gaskill and Chambers pulls on the counter. Plain coloured walls in original railway colours with 1930s lamps and a lino floor, the decor is railway based of course with also a few beer related items. Look out for the large photo of the station before demolition and the blue plaque commemorating Branwell Bronte, brother of the famous authors, who worked here as a clerk in the nineteenth century. An access code is required to use the toilets

We have been meaning to visit this pub for sometime and achieved this goal this afternoon. Have to say we were disappointed. This was because:- it was more like a cafe than a pub and far too clean and clinical, the beer was sold southern style ie with a flat head, there were no draft lagers- I was sold a warm bottle of lindeboom, and was exceptionally quiet for a Saturday afternoon. On leaving we went to the west riding at Dewsbury which was es good as ever!

Nicely refurbished station buffet on the Manchester bound platform. Bar is to the left as you enter and to the right is a large log/coal burner which was roaring away yesterday. There's a good looking clock above the entrance door inside and loads of old railway posters around the walls. Six handpumps on the bar but only three on. These were Old Spot Spring's Sprung, Elland Privilege and Daleside Blonde. I had a pint of the Old Spot and an Elland, both were very well kept. They also sell a variety of snacks including the excellent tooth breaking pork scratchings from Mr Scratchings in Bradford. A great job has been done on this place we'll certainly call again.
