UPDATE: A terraced pub, with rear patio area. The pub is a 1920s rebuild of an earlier pub, of the same name, on the same site. In Jacobean style, it is typically symmetrical, as befits the period. It is in red brick and stone, with side entrances, a front facing gable and an interesting window arrangement (including roundels). The interior is an open room, having lost all of its old rooms - which is indicated by the mix of wood and stone flag flooring. The decor has red, white and flowery wallpaper, with some brick. There are a couple of hearth features and a tiled fireplace. One side area has a pool table while another has a dart board. The TVs were showing the footy and there was no music. There are a few small prints and a barrel for interest. There are small bench seats, as well as the usual tables and chairs. The service was fine and the place populated by a mixed group of locals. Beer; no real ale, just the usual tap stuff with a pretty decent Banks's MILD. Certainly an improvement on my last visit. Pity it doesn't have real ale. *****************************************************************************
(NOV 2009) A 1920s looking terraced brick build, with a nod to the Jacobean style. The interior is open plan and in red and wood panel, white ceiling, with a couple on tiled fireplaces, wood floor and wood bar. Decoration saw a few bottles and jugs about. The music was loudish and there is a punchbag machine in the corner. Service was friendly, the clientele mixed, but small. Beer; tap stuff with an ok Banks's MILD- no real ale. A bog standard kind of place really. If you like real ale, then dont bother, i probably wont again, if you are happy with keg, i have been in far worse.
