A branch of Wetherspoon's whose one side overlooks the River Avon, making it a rather picturesque setting. The other side is completely the opposite, as you approach through a modern retail area.

There is a fair size ground floor area, along with a more limited seating upstairs which appears to be much quieter. You get a good view of the river from up here, as well as from an outdoor patio alongside the pub.

Young bar staff appeared to have many of their cronies in as customers, creating much banter. In fact, the demography was very much younger than what I have become to expect from a 'spoon's daytime crowd.

The usual beers were on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests were Box Steam New Normal & Exmoor Stag. Ciders were Cock Eyed Monkey Mango & Thatcher's Stan's Cheddar Valley, along with Purbeck Katy Perry.

I found this branch to be bright and airy and if you try to forget the shopping centre location, it has some nice views over and along the river.

Hard to find but pleasant location off the river in what I took to be a mid-80’s building. Not bad inside, fairly dull decor of grey and varnish wood but at least in good order. The side decking overlooking the River Avon was a nice place for a quick vape. Three genuine guest ales plus a cider. My Box Steam New Normal was slightly muted but drinkable (NBSS 2.5). Classic Spoons cliche #42 my food somehow turned up before my drink, and that was hardly slow. The kitchen must have had a fresh batch of Play-doh off the magic machine. 6.5

A new build pub adjacent to a small retail development off the High Street, alongside the river. The large main room has rather dark décor and not a lot of atmosphere, while down a couple of steps is another room with river views. At the side is a small balcony with a few tables overlooking the river. The front has a strange portico affair, with a smoking area beneath and a surprise room above which is a nice corner to escape to if you don't mind carrying your beer upstairs. The draught range was Doom Bar, Abbot, Marstons Old Empire and Saltaire Blonde along with three ciders.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bridge House (JD Wetherspoon)

Slightly unusual 'spoons, with the small 'flying' first-floor extension above the entrance and the decking terrace right by the river. However, although a 'new build', the interior is surprisingly formulaic and fails to take full advantage of its situation. Five real ales (including Exmoor Gold, £2.05) and two ciders available from the ground-floor bar.

A pleasant, modern riverside pub, open and airy, well described by Aqualung. To complement his description we ventured upstairs only to find a small seating area and the toilets. Six ales on draft: Devon Dew, Doombar, Ruddles, Abbott, Bristol Belle and Harvey's Double Gold, all in excellent condition. Staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the better 'Spoons, worth a visit if in town.

The Bridge House is a modern looking, possibly purpose built Spoons set on Chippenham's River Avon a short walk from the main bridge. Inside it's a roughly L shaped room with a typical layout for a newer JDW and the usual furnishings. It was doing a good trade on my Saturday midday visit with a mix of families, shoppers and a few of the daytime brigade. There is an upstairs area that I didn't investigate and it looked as though there was a patio area overlooking the river.
The bar here only has seven hand pumps which had two available soon, Ruddles, Doom Bore, Twisted Gaucho, Milk Street Funky Monkey and Exmoor Gold. I went for the Twisted Gaucho (£2.15) which was in good nick.
It's in a good location and is probably more of a summer pub but for me the beer choice was disappointing.

A new Wetherspoons pub, opening Friday 13th November, hope that's not a bad omen. It is right by the river, looks a very nice spot.
